3.B) Should I use distilled water or use any water softening tablets in my machine?

Using distilled water can be beneficial to the running of your steam generator, but not essential. Norris Steam do however highly recommend you DO NOT to use any water softening tablets with our machinery. Please inform us if you are located in a hard water area and we can advise you on the best way to maintain your system.

3.C) How often should I change the water in my unit?

Norris Steam recommend that you perform a regular water change (minimum weekly) depending on the water in your area. Please inform us if you are located in a hard water area and we can advise you on the best way to maintain your system.

3.D) Where can I locate my model number and/or serial number?

3.F) I am thinking about using a Teflon Iron Shoe with my steam iron. What are the benefits of using this product?

The benefit of using a Teflon Iron Shoe with your iron is that you get the regular steam but without the high temperature heat from the iron. This will eliminate all risks of burning, scorching or leaving a shine on fabrics. Norris Steam highly recommends using a Teflon Iron Shoe if you are working with dark coloured or delicate fabrics. We currently stock Teflon Iron Shoes for many different shaped steam irons.

3.G) I am left handed and have had problems finding an Iron suitable for a left handed presser. Do you sell left handed Irons?

All Industrial Steam Irons that Norris Steam sell are designed to be operated by a right handed presser. However, we can convert most of our industrial steam irons to be operated by a left handed presser. If you contact us with your requirements, we shall endeavour to meet your requirements.

Section 4. Troubleshooting

4.A I have water coming from the underneath of my Iron. What should I do?

With our experience at Norris Steam, we recommend taking the following actions if you have water coming from the underneath of the Iron:

  • Please check to ensure that the thermostat on the iron is set to the correct temperature.
  • Please check to ensure that the water level inside the steam generator is correct. If you are unsure of your water level, we recommend that you reset your system by removing all the water, then re starting again.
  • If you have tried the above points but still feel your unit is not working at optimum performance please contact us.

4.B) I have water coming out of my vacuum table. What should I do?

With our experience at Norris Steam, we recommend taking the following actions if you have water coming out of the vacuum table:

  • Please ensure that the thermostat on the vacuum table is set to the correct temperature.
  • Please ensure that the operator is using the vacuum facility at all times whilst pressing. By not operating the vacuum function you will not remove the steam from the system, this in turn will condense back into water and may cause damage to the electrics and vacuum motor.
  • If you have a dress shaped vacuum table (curved nose end) Please tilt the table up from curved end about four inches from the floor. Whilst tilted slightly, press the vacuum pedal. This will clear the system by exhausting any water out of the back of the unit
  • If you have tried the above points but still feel your unit is not working at optimum performance please contact us.

4.C) I cannot get any steam out of my iron even though the pressure gauge registers steam inside the unit. What should I do?

With our experience at Norris Steam, we recommend taking the following actions if you cannot get any steam through your iron even though the dial registers steam pressure in the unit:

  • Please ensure the solenoid valve is not fully closed. This can be checked by adjusting the wheel which controls the steam flow.
  • Please check the steam iron micro switch (red/blue button). This should click to inform the user it is operating correctly.
  • Please check the electromagnet coil (brown/blue part) on the solenoid valve is operating correctly. If this part is faulty, a crack may appear on the plastic casing.
  • If you have tried the above points but still feel your unit is not working at optimum performance please contact us.

4.D) I have steam coming out of the cap where I fill the steam generator with water. What should I do?

With our experience at Norris Steam, we recommend taking the following actions if you have steam coming out from the cap where you fill the steam generator with water:

  • Please check the pressure gauge to make ensure that the steam pressure is not exceeding the regular amount.
  • When the steam generator has no pressure inside please check the washer inside the water fill cap. If this has perished, you may need to purchase a new water fill cap.
  • If you have tried the above points but still feel your unit is not working at optimum performance please contact us.

4.E) I have steam coming from the back of my Iron. What should I do?

With our experience at Norris Steam, we recommend taking the following actions if you have steam coming from the back of Iron

  • Please check the steam hose where it attaches onto the back of the steam iron. If you notice a split in the steam hose please cut the steam hose back about two inches and refit back onto the iron.
  • If you have already cut the steam hose back and this is now too short you may need to order a replacement hose.
  • If you have tried the above points but still feel your unit is not working at optimum performance please contact us.

Should you require a copy of our products and public liability please email us at sales@norrissteam.co.uk and we shall assist in urgent manner.

7.B) Can you give me any advice regarding the insurance cover I need for my steam system?

All steam generators purchased from Norris Steam are pressure vessels. Pressure vessels which either contain steam at any pressure, or exert a pressure in excess of 0.5 bar above atmospheric pressure and contain gas or fluids (or some mixture of them), require maintenance in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions, testing to ensure that standards are met, and inspection to ensure that the vessel body, pipe work and valves and parts are in good condition. You need to decide which items of equipment in your workplace operate under pressure and form a pressure system. The equipment identified must have a Written Scheme of Examination drawn up (or certified as suitable) by a competent person. As each individual situation is different, we strongly advise you to contact your insurance agency and seek advice on the current level of cover you have. Norris Steam are happy to assist you in finding an agency who specialise in pressure vessels.
